Kangaroo Island Tours, activities, safaris and adventures

Kangaroo IslandKangaroo Island is Australia’s third largest island and is situated 112 kilometres southwest of Adelaide in the state of South Australia. Kangaroo Island covers an area of about 4,405 square kilometres and has a coastline that stretches 540 kilometres. Aboriginals are said to have inhabited the island up to 10,000 years ago but it is said that they haven’t been on the island since around 200BC. Kangaroo Island was named in 1802 by a British explorer named Matthew Flinders but he originally named it “Kanguroo Island”. Kangaroo Islands biggest township is Kingscote and at the time Kingscote was South Australia’s first official European settlement. It was thought that it could be the capital of South Australia however a lack of resources saw that the area where Adelaide is now would be better suited. Since the Island was separated from the mainland in the last ice age it has some plant and animal species that are found nowhere else in the world. This includes their own species of Kangaroo.

Kangaroo Island LighthouseKangaroo Island is accessible by plane or ferry or on one of the Kangaroo Island day tours or extended tours that run from Adelaide or Melbourne.
