Barossa Valley
A short drive north of Adelaide is the famous Barossa Valley wine region with its distinctly Mediterranean feel. There are 15 wine regions with accompanying cellars, gourmet restaurants, markets and quaint home stays contributing a distinct ambience to the touring of Australia's premiere wine producing district.
Every state in Australia offers an outback experience and South Australia is no exception.
In the Flinders Ranges a few hours north of Adelaide the adventurer can explore its centre piece, the Wilpena Pound and then push on north through rugged country, past great salt lakes toward strangest of outback towns, Coober Pedy. Here the local population lives underground in cool and comfortable dug-outs while mining the elusive but beautiful opal gems.
