Cairns Tours and Information
Cairns; the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and the adventure capital of Australia is located in Tropical North Queensland on the north East coast of Australia. The city of Cairns is a holiday maker’s paradise and a great place to live if you’re a fan of a tropical climate. Surrounded by tropical rainforest at the foothills of the Great Dividing Range and blessed with easy access to the Great Barrier Reef and its tropical Islands there is no wonder why people come from around the world to experience it. The city itself is quite small and easy to get around and the population of Cairns sits at around 150,000. The impressive lagoon on the Cairns Esplanade is a hot spot for locals and travellers alike and the many beaches to the north of Cairns including Trinity Beach and Palm Cove are easily accessible by bus or car. Cairns is well known for its warm tropical climate and surrounding natural beauty and there is a wide variety of tours, activities and things to do in and around the area. Quality accommodation, restaurants, bars and a laid back tropical feel make Cairns an Ideal place to holiday.
There is no doubt that the dive trips and day tours to the Great Barrier Reef from Cairns are world class and are certainly a must do on a trip to the area. You can join any of the day tours or half day tours to one of the islands like Green Island or Fitzroy Island to get a small taste of the reef or make your way out further and try some snorkelling or diving off one of the boats, sailing vessels or reef pontoons. Most day trips from Cairns give you the opportunity to try Scuba diving, snorkelling and even if you don’t want to go in the water you can view the wonders of the reef from a semi submersible or coral viewing platform. There is a Great Barrier Reef Experience for everyone and if boats aren’t for you then why not take a helicopter scenic flight or sea plane out to the reef and view this natural wonder from the air. If you want to learn to scuba dive there is a range of dive courses available and for the already certified adventure divers you can get onboard one of the world class livaboard dive trips to the outer Barrier Reef.
From Cairns you can also experience other well known attractions including the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and Kuranda Scenic Railway which are just outside of Cairns but can also depart from the city itself. The Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural park and dance theatre can give you a historical Aboriginal experience like no other including leaning how to throw a boomerang. Adventure tours and activities like bungy jumping, skydiving, white water rafting, ATV quad bike riding, horse riding and fishing are all possible from Cairns and well worth experiencing. The Atherton Tablelands to the east can be reached by car or on one of the day tours from Cairns and will take you to see places like Kuranda, Milla Milla falls, and the curtain fig tree which have to be seen to be believed. To the north of Cairns is Port Douglas, Cape Tribulation, Mossman Gorge and the oldest living rainforest on the planet; the Daintree. This is a place where the rainforest really meets the reef and it’s all easily accessible on our tours from Cairns.
