Ayers Rock UluruUluru / Ayers Rock is an impressive sandstone formation situated in the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National park 300 kilometres from Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. Uluru / Ayers Rock is over 300 meters high and approximately 8 kilometres around the base and the best way to get a feel for the size of it is to walk around it, drive around or view it from the air on a scenic flight. Uluru / Ayers Rock is one of Australia’s most famous and iconic landmarks and tourist attractions and is a sacred site for the aboriginal people of Australia. The name Uluru was given to the rock by the aboriginals and original land owners who are said to have inhabited the area for up to 10,000 years. The name Ayers Rock was inspired by Sir Henry Ayers; the premier of South Australia at the time and it was given this name by the Kings CanyonNorthern Territory Reserves Board in 1958. The culture and stories surrounding the rock and its history make a trip to the area an amazing experience and one you will never forget.
